HEALTH MATTERS
WALK IN CLINIC
Students should bring any medical concerns that arise during the Summer
Institute to the attention of one of the Directors or the Resident Assistant.
EMERGENCY FUNDS
Burnett Honors College Summer Institute participants should be aware
of the status of family insurance deductibles and be prepared to pay
for emergency and other medical services. Parents/guardians may wish
to consider providing extra funds for student use in case of an emergency.
MEDICATION
Students who require prescription medications and/or injections while
attending the program must alert the Institute. In addition, students should note any existing
medical conditions that require medication on the Medical form that
will be included in the BHCSI acceptance packet. Students are
responsible for administering their own medications and for keeping
them in their rooms. Medications should never be shared with
another student as a potentially dangerous situation can occur. Failure
to comply with this rule will result in immediate dismissal.
ILLNESS OR INJURY PROCEDURE
For an injury or illness that requires a clinic response, students will
be transported by one of the Institute Directors or Resident Assistants to that facility. For
a more serious injury or illness, students will be taken to the emergency
facility of the nearest hospital. In that event, the following procedure
will take place:
1) While on the way to the facility, an Institute
staff member will attempt to notify the student's parent or guardian.
2) A student's parent/guardian will be called from the hospital and
advised of the situation.
3) After a student returns to campus, he or she will be asked to call
his or her guardian to report his or her condition.
