COURSES

Prior knowledge of programming is not required for participating students. The courses are tailored to different programming proficiency levels and they cover the material typically taught in AP Computer Science A, AB, and beyond. Students have access to The Burnett Honors College Computer Laboratory, equipped with state-of-the-art computer workstations, to the UCF Library, and to other on-campus resources.

Students will be given daily assignments and projects, which comprise the basis for assessment. They are expected to perform at the highest level of their abilities and to devote a significant amount of time to studying. Each student receives a performance report that details his or her academic progress, strengths and weaknesses, and suggestions for improvement. The reports are mailed to the student’s home at the end of the program and, by request, can also be sent to the student’s high school guidance office.

At the end of the program, students receive a Certificate of Completion during the Closing Reception. Each student will enroll in two concurrent courses:

  • All students will take a single computer programming class based upon their placement test, consistent with the AP curriculum.
  • All students will take an elective of their choice in either Web Development or Cryptography systems.
